The Training Payment

As part of the financial arrangements, from April 2023 contractors are paid £180 per month as a contribution towards training costs for pharmacy teams. This payment is made from an annualised pool of £2.751 million.

The training payment recognises the significant investment that contractors and their teams make in continuing professional development, service training, and keeping up with evolving clinical requirements across the pharmacy contract.

This is a fixed monthly payment to all contractors on the pharmaceutical list — it does not vary by dispensing volume or activity level. Every contractor receives £180 per month regardless of size or location.

The training payment sits within the Global Sum and is separate from the other training-related Non-Global Sum arrangements (the Independent Prescribing Legacy Workforce pool and the PRFP payment), which are targeted at specific workforce development programmes.
